QotD: I wish I could...

Comments

I wonder if this sentiment is a factor of living in a place like NYC where multiple languages are heard every day.

Oh, is that what this question meant? I though it meant any, not all. So it was like "play violin or speak French" or "viola or Mandarin" Not speak all languages or play all intruments. Either way, language would stil be my choice.

Actually, Meg, I think your interpretation makes more sense. C'est la vie! But since someone clearly has the power to gift Vox users with the power of "any language," I won't settle until I can speak them all.

I remember one subway ride during which I overheard an anorexic young woman trying to convince her boyfriend that one bagel with a few slices of cucumbers contains your entire, daily nutritional needs. I remember thinking how wonderful if they could have this conversation in some language I don't know just so I could ride home without wanting to throttle her.

That being said, I would love to be able to speak Icelandic and/or play the guitar.

Building on Adriana's suggestion, I wish that somehow all cell phone conversations in public would be translated into another language I don't understand so I don't have to overhear some bs like this AM in the locker room at the gym. Some woman who spends lots of $$ to send diabetic children to summer camp for free was all PO'd that some dr. associated with the program wasn't given her proper respect. On and on she went with her bitching and moaning for all to hear. If only it had been encoded into, well, Icelandic!

Let's just all learn Esperanto.
